The classic 1983 sitcom Mr. Mom is getting turned into a series for the small screen, per a report from Deadline. MGM is partnering with Vudu, Wal-Mart’s own streaming service, to update the film for modern audiences 35 years later.

The original film found Jack (Michael Keaton) as a stay-at-home-dad while his wife, Caroline (Teri Garr) went to work every day. It was written by the late John Hughes (The Breakfast Club) and directed by Stan Dragoti (The Man with One Red Shoe), who passed away earlier this year. The upcoming series will continue the story, of sorts, as the baby from the first film is all grown up now. While she is the breadwinner for her family, her husband stays at home with their kids.

No casting has been announced at this time.

Vudu and MGM recently announced a partnership, with Mr. Mom being their first endeavor. Given the sheer volume of work MGM controls the rights to, this could be the first of many such projects. With an intent to create more family-friendly content, it could make Vudu’s streaming platform, Movies On Us, a real competitor in a market dominated by Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
