Based on the novel released earlier this year in April that topped the New York Times bestseller list, the series will follow a ranger who moves with his “cantankerous” father to South Florida and becomes a homicide detective in order to solve the murder of his brother. The pilot will be executive produced and written by Jason Hall (Thank You For Your Service), T.J. Brady (Shooter) and Rasheed Newson (Narcos).

Texas Ranger will also be executive produced by Patterson himself, whose novels Zoo and Instinct have previously been adapted into series by the primetime network, and Peter Lenkov, who has been behind the CBS reboots of the classic police procedurals Hawaii Five-0MacGyver and Magnum P.I.
