Camping Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Camping Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Camping Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

HBO’s Camping is a show about a dysfunctional group of people on a camping trip led by a high-strung control freak, Kathryn McSorley-Jodell. The group gets up to hilarious misfortune as she freaks out about the schedule. In the series premiere, Kathryn eagerly checked into a campsite at Town Bear Lake (eight adults, one child, at the Groupon rate).

The Jodells

The Jodells (Kathryn, Walt, and Orvis) are the central family to the show. Kathryn planned the whole trip for Walt’s birthday. She is obsessed about her mildly successful Instagram, her pelvic floor, and the camping trip going according to plan. The trip was supposedly adults only (her rule), but they had brought their son. Kathryn had Walt help her take all the mattresses from the other tents since she needed them for support. And when everyone wanted to swim during their “birds of prey watch”, she couldn’t bring herself to join in.

The Campers

The other couples on the trip were Carleen, Kathryn’s wishy washy sister, and her husband Joe, who brought his stepdaughter, Sol; George, Walt’s best friend, and his wife Nina-Joy, who seemed to have an awkward history with Kathryn; and Miguel, who had just separated from his wife Margaret, and Jandice, his new, free-spirited girlfriend. Kathryn was the last to find out about Miguel and Margaret, which bothered her. She also tried too hard to be friendly with Nina-Joy, who was clearly uncomfortable being around her. And finally, Jandice’s spontaneity threw Kathryn off balance, especially when she jumped into the lake naked and everyone followed.

The Caretakers

Camping Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

The proprietor of the camping ground, Harry, and her wife, lived on a trailer on the property. Harry seemed taken with Kathryn, offering to heat up water for a bath if she wanted. They insisted on giving her a BB gun in case of bears. The Jodells were strictly anti-gun, but somehow the BB gun ended up with them anyway. Their first night there, they heard a noise, and Kathryn started shooting the BBs in different directions. She hit Miguel, who was getting frisky with Jandice outside. Harry dug out the BB and stitched him back up.

Charmed Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Charmed Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Charmed Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Charmed is back, reimagined by The CW and with a new incarnation of the Power of Three. We’ll be recapping a season full of witches, demons, and whitelighters. In this series premiere episode, a new group of Charmed Ones finds out who they are and the power they possess.

Unbound

Marisol Vera was a professor of Women’s Studies and an advocate for victims of sexual harassment and assault. She supported Angela Wu, a student accusing Professor Thaine of sexual assault. When her daughters Mel and Maggie went out one night, a demon murdered her as she worked to unbind her daughters’ powers. When Mel and Maggie reunited with Marisol’s third daughter Macy, they became the Charmed Ones. Their whitelighter, Harry Greenwood, insisted that it was their choice to accept their powers, but it had to be unanimous.

The Power of Three

Charmed Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Mel Vera was a strong-minded advocate for women’s issues, similar to her mother. She protested passionately over Professor Thaine’s reinstatement after Marisol’s death and Angela Wu’s hospitalization due to overdose. Mel had dated Det. Nico Hamada, who broke up with her because Mel distanced herself when Marisol died. She discovered she had freezing powers, which she could control when she wasn’t angry. She could freeze her surroundings, which helped her get back together with Nico.

Maggie was the youngest sister. She was a freshman in college, who was rushing a sorority while avoiding her ex-boyfriend, Brian. Maggie could read people’s minds at a touch. She suspected the demon after her was one of the sorority girls, and reading their minds reinforced that idea.

Macy Vaughn was Marisol’s daughter, though she had a different father. She was a scientist and was working under Professor Thaine. Her power was telekinesis, which she learned how to control quickly. She struggled with her mother leaving her, but Mel and Maggie welcomed her into the family. By the end of the episode, she moved into their house.

Three Signs

Charmed Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Harry explained there were three signs of the apocalypse. The first was “basically the current president”. The second was a string of witches, including Marisol, dying. The third sign was one they didn’t know yet, but was characterized as the “awakening of the source of all evil”. It would be the Charmed Ones’ responsibility to stop the apocalypse. Harry insisted that they call for him if they ever needed him.

When Maggie was attacked by a demon dog, they searched for the dog’s demonic owner. Her ex-boyfriend Brian, not the sorority girl, turned out to be possessed by a demon. Macy scientifically deduced that baking soda would neutralize him. However, it wasn’t cold when he was around, leading them to conclude he wasn’t the demon responsible for their mother’s death. It was Professor Thaine, who was actually an upper-level demon called Taydeus, and he drained strong women of their strength. With the Power of Three, they vanquished him.

The episode ended with them contacting Marisol through a Ouija board. The board told them, “Don’t trust Harry.”

Chucky: Don Mancini Reveals More Details About TV Series

Don Mancini reveals more details about Child’s Play TV series

Speaking at the 2018 Screamfest, writer Don Mancini along with producer David Kirschner offered more details about the forthcoming Child’s Play TV series which is still currently in development. Mancini confirmed that the series will be set right after the events of the 2017 film Cult of Chucky.

“We deliberately ended Cult with a bunch of cliffhangers to set up a TV series,” Mancini said (via Bloody Disgusting). “Because there are so many different threads now, television could best accommodate that so that was done intentionally. At the same time, we have a whole new world, a bunch of new characters which we can say nothing about.”

Mancini also said that the new series “involves children,” with Kirschner confirming they’d go back to the roots of the series:

“The only thing I think we can say is from the original film that Don wrote, Child’s Play, we are playing with that concept again, the idea of child’s play,” Kirschner said. “I’ll let you guys fill in the pieces of that.”

“We saw that after seven movies, how can we flip again?” Mancini added “So this time not by merely changing genre but by changing medium. This will give us a different kind of canvas, a much bigger canvas to explore characters and relationships.”

It was previously reported in February that a series was in early development from Mancini and producer David Kirschner in addition to future films, and this new announcement seals the deal on the red-headed psychopath bringing his mayhem to television. Mancini’s previous discussion said the film’s story arc will continue with the series, marking a unique connection between a film and TV series.

The Child’s Play series has been running for 30 years, with the first film dropping in 1988 to box office success, generally positive reviews and a cult following, spawning six sequels that remained box office successes but slowly started earning more mixed and negative reviews, until the revitalized Curse of Chucky, which returned to the franchise’s horror roots and earned very positive reviews. The most recent installment, Cult of Chucky, was released on Blu-ray and video on demand last October and received strong reviews from critics. Brad Dourif has been a staple of the franchise since its inception, lending his voice to the murderous doll in all of the films.

The CW recently set the dates for the annual Arrowverse crossover, with this year’s storyline heading to Gotham City, a place previously off-limits to The CW. The crossover will start with The Flash on Sunday, December 9. Arrow will continue the story on Monday, December 10, before it all comes to an end in Supergirl on Tuesday, December 11. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is sitting out of this year’s event, and Black Lightning has yet to establish any firm links with the Arrowverse.

The crossover event stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash along with guest stars Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman, Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Jeremy Davies as Dr. John Deegan, and Cassandra Jean Amell as Nora Fries, the wife of the classic DC comics villain Mr. Freeze.

This story will mark Ruby Rose’s debut as Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman. While Kate is Bruce Wayne’s cousin in the DC Universe, the Batman isn’t expected to appear in this story or anywhere else in the Arrowverse any time soon. That said, Batman does exist in this world, and Oliver Queen called him out by name last season on Arrow.

First Watchmen teaser image released for Damon Lindelof’s HBO series

HBO has launched their official Watchmen Instagram account with a sneak peek at the first teaser image for Damon Lindelof’s upcoming graphic novel series adaptation. Check it out below and let us know what you think!

Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Originally published as a 12-issue miniseries beginning in 1986, Watchmen quickly become one of sequential art’s most acclaimed stories. The original story centers on a murder-mystery before unfolding into a planet-altering conspiracy that ultimately asks where the fine line is drawn between heroes and villains.

In a letter to fans, Lindelof made it clear that the Watchmen series won’t be an adaptation of the comics, but an original story with new faces and unknown characters introduced into the universe that he intends to remix.

The pilot is already made up of an ensemble cast that includes Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Regina King (The Leftovers), Don Johnson (Django Unchained), Louis Gossett Jr. (Hap and Leonard), Tim Blake Nelson (Colossal), Adelaide Clemens (Rectify), Andrew Howard (Bates Motel), Frances Fisher (Masters of Sex), Jacob Ming-Trent (White Famous), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Handmaid’s Tale), Sara Vickers (The Crown), and Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow).

Since the 2009 film adaptation was released, DC Comics released an extensive “Before Watchmen” comic line, telling stories from the pasts of the central characters. More recently, DC Comics has made efforts to integrate Watchmen into the broader DC Multiverse with their Doomsday Clock series.

Lindelof serves as creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the Watchmen series, with Tom Spezialy, Stephen Williams, and Joseph Iberti also executive producing. Nicole Kassell will executive produce and direct the pilot. The series comes from Lindelof’s White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television and is based on the DC Comics characters.
